To be an ethical leader, one must not only behave ethically, but also serve as an example for followers to follow. Leaders may motivate followers not just to act morally, but also to reflect on the kind of people they want to become (Gardiner and Tenuto, 2015)
Ethical leadership entails taking charge, inspiring and motivating subordinates, and encouraging them to take personal responsibility for their output. When this occurs, productivity increases and morale soars, leading to greater company success. Ethical executives have just as much influence over company culture as they do over bottom line performance. (Gardiner and Tenuto, 2015)
